FERLAND, J. B. A. BIOGRAPHICAL NOTICE OF JOSEPH-OCTAVE PLESSIS EVEQUE DE QUEBEC Quebec Leger Brousseau 1878 Hardcover 16mo. (approximately 4-1/4 x 6-1/2 inches); 288 pages. In original plum publisher's cloth stamped in blind. Paper shelf label on spine and library stamp on title page. Spine a little faded, otherwise a nice copy. Plessis (1768-1825) became one of the strongest defenders of Catholicism against the onslaughts of Protestantism within French Canada and later encouraged the French-Canadians to remain loyal to the British in the War of 1812, which gained him the good-will of England. But his greatest work was the organization and expansion of the Catholic church within Canada. Price:
