Full green leather folk binding with raised bands and gilt lettering on spine. Illustrated with a black Noah's ark afloat (after Jones' illustration) and a silver bolt of lightning on the front cover, and Gabriel's trumpet in gilt on rear cover. Spine and edges a little rubbed, spine darkened. All edges gilt. Heavy marbled endpapers (a little offset from the leather edges). A wonderfully playful binding by a gifted amature with leather fleurettes inset at corners inside the covers, dotted gilt frame on the leather folds with initials "J.R.S." in margin of inside front cover, and signed "19 K.S.30" on bottom margin inside rear cover. 7-3/4 x 10-1/4 inches; x, (2), 141 pages. Woodcut illustrations by Robert Edmund Jones. The fanciful rendering of an Old Testament fantasy performed by an all black cast. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama 1930. Title page preceded by a facsimile of the program from the first performance of the play February 26th, 1930 presented at the Mansfield Theater in New York. A unique copy. ; Small 4to
